Most of New Zealand’s lowland waterways are polluted to a point where they are unsafe to swim in, or drink water from. The Living Rivers Coalition wants this to change.

December 2004 - Launch of the Living Rivers Coalition
2004 has been an extraordinary year for New Zealand’s finite and precious waterways. The number of threats that have emerged against their survival is unprecedented.
On December 15 2004, four established environmental and outdoor recreational organisations launched the "Living Rivers Coalition" to save New Zealand’s waterways.
The four organisations are campaigning for the protection and enhancement of our rivers - ranging from the small streams flowing through backyards of inner city houses to the great braided rivers of the South Island.
2005 is election year and the Living Rivers Coalition believes that the state of New Zealand’s rivers needs to be put firmly on the political agenda.
